Our commission, in the context of Indian ports, entailed the production of a case study on the Liverpool 2 port development in the UK in order to identify potential lessons and best practice capable of application to ports in India.

The work involved a review of the India context, research into the Liverpool 2 development and its hinterland, production of a case study and the hosting of a visit to Liverpool 2 port and its hinterland by a delegation of Indian transport ministry personnel.  The project formed part of a series of case studies commissioned by the World Bank to provide insight into the important role that ports play externally in regional development, especially when there is strong port hinterland connectivity, and how they are approaching internal development to ensure that they remain competitive in a global market.
